Don’t Be Afraid To Do The Right Thing

I remember being eleven years old and hearing this. I remember the situation too. I was with my mom when and I absolutely was in love with horses and any kind of show that involved horses. The Saddle Club!

so. much. feels!!!
so. much. feels!!!

I remember this show a bit but it’s been such a long time I forgot most about it. However, this one scene always stuck with me. The girl on the right, Stevie (I remember all of their names but especially her because I thought she was a freaking’ pistol. Being honest I was more like Lisa) was being bullied. These girls seemed to have their hands full at the barn all the time!

She was laughed at and made fun of for doing the right thing. I was sad for her and thought, oh, the right thing is so hard to do, why would you do it? But being the little girl I was the other part told me, well she’s just mean. I was visibly sad for the trouble she had to go through to do the right thing.

Dan, seeing my downcast face and confused spirit told me after pausing the show, “Hailey, never be afraid to do the right thing.” He smiled at me and played it again. And I swear from that day on I have tried so hard to do the right thing.

But what is the right thing? I’ll admit sometimes that’s hard to figure out. It’s not always cut and dry like her situation was. She was going to tell the truth about something that happened and she was getting hell raised for it. Be honest. That is the right thing.

I say honest for a reason. Truth changes based on the person. It could be environmental factors like, “It was dark.” or “Too bright.” when asked who jumped you or something in a court of law. Or it could be cognitively based and you may not even remember what happened. Thus, if you were you jumped you might respond with no when actually you were.

Truth can change, honesty never does. So being honest is the right thing to do. Trying to follow the Ten Commandments as well,

  1. You shall have no other gods before Me.
  2. You shall not make idols.
  3. You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.
  4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
  5. Honor your father and your mother.
  6. You shall not murder.
  7. You shall not commit adultery.
  8. You shall not steal.
  9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
  10. You shall not covet.

This is a pretty good list to follow.

So, why does this help? Because you are doing the right thing because it’s the right thing to do. It feels good to do something right when everyone else goes down a different path. It’s kinda cool, hu!

🙂 I love you guys!

Stay…amazing!!
